  • Patterns, repetition, contrast. The fresh soft, cold snow after a snowstorm, against the hard red rock of the South Rim, worn down over millions of years.

  • Water flowing in to Oak Creek, at Grasshopper Point. I liked the contrast between the soft water and leaves, and the sharp, dry cactus. A couple hundred yards down stream is a great swimming hole for swimming and diving.

  • Paddle boats resting on Lynx Lake near Prescott, Arizona. Nesting eagles were off to the right of the photo. I got there while it was still dark, and watched as the area, and the campers came to life for the day. Small animals scampered by, and the fragrance of bacon cooking over a campfire was heavenly.

  • A tree and leaf covered path through Lockett Meadow in the San Francisco Peaks North of Flagstaff, AZ taken in 2009. This was in the caldron of a very large volcano. A very large forest fire destroyed several square miles of trees in this area and the area was closed for several months. I was relieved when I was able to get back in there several months later and found this area had survived.

  • Changing leaves reflected in a small deer pond in Lockett Meadow of the San Francisco Peaks. Not long after this photograph was taken a major forest fire burned several square miles of trees in the area. People still have not been allowed back in to this area so I don't know if this area survived, but I would be very surprised if it did.

  • This is the Padre Canyon Bridge, East of Winona, built in 1914. The highway was very narrow, with lots of sharp turns. Travel on this stretch of highway would have been very slow indeed. The bridge is reflected in the water below.
